Full-time 4 years (8.0 sessions)

Bachelor of Nursing - 192 points 3 years FTE
Graduate Diploma of Clinical Practice (Paramedic) - 64 points 1 year FTE
Students will complete the Graduate Diploma of Clinical Practice (Paramedic) in Part time mode over 2 years.
Overall Duration of combined course is 4 years FTE taken over 5 years as the final 64 points are undertaken part time.

Normal course duration is the effective period of time taken to complete a course when studied Full-time (Full-time Equivalent: FTE). Students are advised to consult the Enrolment Pattern for the actual length of study. Not all courses are offered in Full-time mode.

Admission criteria

CSU Admission Policy

Bachelor of Nursing

Students will be admitted to the Bachelor of Nursing according to CSU Admission Regulations. Entry requirements are consistent with the Pathways to Qualifications in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF Level 7) guidelines for Bachelor Degrees. This course is not available to international students.
Admission to the course is based on the following:

  • completion of an Australian Year 12 qualification (or equivalent) where the minimum Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) or equivalent is achieved (applications are normally made to and processed by the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) and the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC);
  • completion of a relevant Diploma or Certificate IV with relevant work experience;
  • Enrolled Division 2 Nurse with a current practicing certificate with the NMBA holding one of the following Diploma of Nursing qualifications: TAFE NSW Diploma of Nursing Course No. 4393. Successful applicants will be given 72 points credit in recognition of prior learning Diploma of Nursing Course Nos. HLT51607 or HLT51612. Successful applicants will be given 72 points credit in recognition of prior learning. (Applications are normally made to and processed by CSU Admissions Office).
  • Enrolled Division 2 Nurse with a current practicing certificate with the NMBA (TAFE NSW Certificate IV in Nursing Course No. 3262) (undertaken from 2008). Successful applicants will be given 40 points credit in recognition of prior learning (applications are normally made direct to and processed by the CSU Admissions Office);
  • Enrolled Division 2 Nurse with a current practicing certificate with the NMBA (Certificate IV or Conversion to Cert IV TAFE NSW Course No. 3228 (undertaken prior to 2008). Successful applicants will be given 24 points credit in recognition of prior learning (applications are normally made direct to and processed by the CSU Admissions Office);
  • attainments and experience documented and submitted to UAC or VTAC can include: tests and examinations conducted by recognised professional bodies, continuing education programs and/or staff development programs, special tertiary admissions test (STAT).
  • There is no assumed knowledge.

Graduate Diploma of Clinical Practice (Paramedic)

For entry to this course students must hold a bachelors degree in nursing (or equivalent) and be registered to practice. Some experience in the emergency health field is recommended. Intending students should also be aware that in order to undertake the practicum subjects they will be required to comply with the risk management policies and procedures of the host ambulance authority.

Students must be able to attend a 5 day residential school associated with the subject CLS412 Introduction to Internship.

Students who have previously completed part or all of a tertiary course may be eligible for credit, as per CSU Credit Regulations.

To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 256 points.

Course Structure

To complete this combined course and graduate with the Bachelor of Nursing - Graduate Diploma of Clinical Practice (Paramedic) students must successfully complete 256 points from a combination of eight and sixteen point subjects.

Students can transfer and exit after completion of 192 points with the Bachelor of Nursing as outlined in the Bachelor of Nursing enrolment pattern.
