The Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) course aims to prepare graduates for professional practice or further study with an emphasis on current practice issues, including quality management of services, ethical issues, research and communication skills. The Honours stream is embedded in the final year of the four-year Bachelor of Occupational Therapy program and comprises specific Honours research subjects. The course is accredited by OT Australia, The Australian Association of Occupational Therapists and the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT). This course includes practical experience through workplace learning. Fieldwork experience constitutes approximately one quarter of the course, the majority taking place during third and fourth years.

The Bachelor of Occupational Therapy prepares students for professional practice or further study with an emphasis on current practice issues including quality management of services, ethical issues, research and communication skills in both urban and rural settings. Graduates are able to use a professional reasoning process to formulate enabling strategies to develop or enhance competence in occupational tasks in self care, work, leisure and learning roles, taking into consideration factors such as the environment, lifestyle and culture. The course is accredited by OT Australia, The Australian Association of Occupational Therapists and the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT). This course includes practical experience through workplace learning.

Normal course duration is the effective period of time taken to complete a course when studied Full-time (Full-time Equivalent: FTE). Students are advised to consult the Enrolment Pattern for the actual length of study. Not all courses are offered in Full-time mode.

Admission criteria

Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours)

Standard CSU and UAC admission criteria apply. School leavers will be admitted on the basis of ATAR (or equivalent).
Non-recent school leavers will be admitted based on evidence of their academic performance. Academic performance will be based on senior school results and university results from study undertaken at a minimum of a Bachelor's level for one year. Access to the occupational therapy program may be facilitated by completion of a relevant health or science related degree. International students will be considered for admission on the basis of prior academic performance and evidence of likely success in the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy.
English language requirements apply.
Students with occupational therapy qualifications from an off-shore university will be considered for admission as International students,
or as on-shore students for those with permanent residency. Onshore students with permanent residency will apply through VTAC/UAC through the usual processes.
Applications for credit transfer will be considered after enrolment in the course.

Course Structure

The course consists of 256 points. At the end of 2nd year students can choose, dependent upon satisfying minimum requirements, to complete the honours stream or remain in the pass degree.
