The Diploma of Policing Investigations provides an opportunity for participation and success in University study for an emerging policing group who are under-represented in higher education. The course also provides students with the opportunity to develop a wider range of necessary skills to facilitate an improvement in professionalism in their policing activities, and the exposure to, and an understanding of, policing theory in law, ethics, victimology, and practice that is necessary for modern military investigative practice.

Actual duration FTE 0.5 All participants receive 32 points credit.

Admission criteria

CSU Admission Policy

To be admitted to the course, applicants must possess the following attributes:-

  • A current position in a military policing organisation;
  • Successful nomination for a position on the Australian Defence Force Investigator Course (ADFIC);
  • Successful completion of the Service Police Basic Course, or equivalent;
  • Successful completion of the  Service Police Intermediate Course, or equivalent; and
  • Have obtained promotion to the rank of non-commissioned officer (NCO), or equivalent, and the recognition of skills, training, and performance that promotion to that rank displays. 

Credit

CSU Credit Policy

Upon admission students are awarded a standard entry credit level package of 32 points in recognition of prior skills and training.

This will be represented on academic transcripts as: XYZ04C 4 Unspecified Electives - 32 credit points

Graduation requirements

To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 64 points.

Course Structure

The course consists of the following:

Students receive a 32 point credit package on enrolment.

Pre-residential subject

JST310 Information and Investigation

Studied by distance education in conjunction with the regular distance education offerings of that subject to Australian and International civilian police.

Residential School

In conjunction with the stringent requirements of the residential defence force senior investigator training course, two current Bachelor of Policing subjects will be delivered face-to-face to the participants.

Post residential school subject

JST324 Team Management and Leadership

Studied by distance education in conjunction with the regular distance education offerings of that subject to Australian and International civilian police.

Residential School

Two current Bachelor of Policing subjects will be delivered face-to-face in the classroom situation in a residential school setting only available to the participants of the diploma.
