The Graduate Diploma of Clinical Practice (Paramedic) is designed to provide nurses and other health professionals with the necessary knowledge, skills and values to be prepared for practice as paramedics. The course produces reflective practitioners who can analyse complex problems and implement a plan of action that is clinically, ethically and logistically sound. Graduates have also developed a sound knowledge base in order to support the clinical decision making process; can demonstrate positive, caring attitudes towards clients and the members of the community; and can operate as an effective member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Admission criteria

CSU Admission Policy

For entry to this course students must hold a bachelors degree in nursing (or equivalent) and be registered to practice. Some experience in the emergency health field is recommended. Intending students should also be aware that in order to undertake the practicum subjects they will be required to comply with the risk management policies and procedures of the host ambulance authority.
Students must be able to attend a 5 day residential school associated with the subject CLS412 Introduction to Internship.

* Internships must be completed in an approved out-of-hospital setting such as a statutory ambulance authority. Students undertaking the internships must satisfy the risk assessment requirements of the relevant ambulance authority.

Accreditation

The current Bachelor of Nursing Course was listed by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia on the recommendation of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council on the 03/11/2014 to 03/11/2019 as an approved program of study leading to general registration.

This course has received provisional accreditation with the Australasian Council of Ambulance Authorities Inc. Full accreditation will be sought after the first cohort of graduates have at least 12 months of practice experience following graduation.
