Master of International Education (School Leadership) graduates are critically reflective and innovative school leaders. The course enables graduates to acquire an international perspective that allows them to understand and respond to local policy and practice through a broader 'global' perspective; and to develop a set of theoretical, intellectual and methodological tools to base their professional practice and growth on well founded reading, critical enquiry and research. The course enables leaders to explore the ways that jurisdictions around the world respond to and engage with educational issues.

Normal course duration

Full-time 1.25 years (2.5 sessions)

Part-time 2.5 years (5.0 sessions)

Admission criteria

CSU Admission Policy

An applicant for admission to candidature for the degree of Master of International Education (School Leadership) must have at least the following minimum qualifications:

• hold the degree of Bachelor of Education or equivalent from an approved tertiary institution; or
• hold the degree of Bachelor of Education (Honours) or equivalent from an approved tertiary institution; or
• hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an approved tertiary institution with an end‐on integrated professional teaching qualification (such as a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, or Bachelor of Teaching Secondary); or
• possess other qualifications deemed to be equivalent by the Faculty.
 

Credit

CSU Credit Policy

1. Under a formal agreement with the Ontario Principals' Council (OPC) and Catholic Principals' Council of Ontario students who successfully complete the Masters Dimension Enhanced Principals' Qualification Program (PQP) will receive transfer credit (TCR) for ESA510 School Leadership 1 & ESA511 School Leadership 2 (16 subject points).

2. Students who have completed the Standard Dimension PQP 1 and 2 through a recognised Ontario College of Teachers provider will receive transfer credit (TCR) for ESA510 School Leadership 1 (8 Subject points).

3. Students who have completed a three- part Additional Qualifications Specialist (recognised by the Ontario College of Teachers) will receive credit represented as EDU51C Education Studies Level 5 subject (8 Subject points).

4. Students who have completed two three-part Additional Qualifications Specialist (recognised by the Ontario College of Teachers) will receive transfer credit represented as EDU51C Education Studies Level 5 subject (16 Subject points).

5. Students who have completed an Honours Specialist in one area of specialization (recognised by the Ontario College of Teachers) will receive transfer credit represented as EDU51C Education Studies Level 5 subject (8 Subject points).

6. Students who have completed an Honours Specialist in two areas of specialization (recognised by the Ontario College of Teachers) will receive transfer credit represented as EDU51C Education Studies Level 5 subject (16 Subject points).

7. Students who have completed a Combined Honours Specialist (recognized by the Ontario College of Teachers) will receive transfer credit represented as EDU51C Education Studies Level 5 subject (16 Subject points).

8. Students who successfully complete the Experienced Principal’s Development Course (EPDC) receive transfer credit for ESA509 Advanced School Leadership (8 subject points).

9. Students who successfully complete the Ontario Principals' Council Leading Educators Across the Planet program (LEAP) receive transfer credit TCR for EEP511 International Perspectives in Education (8 subject points).

10. Students who successfully complete the Ontario Principals' Council Special Education for Administrators (SEA) program receive transfer credit represented as EDU51C (8 Subject points).

11. Students who successfully complete the Ontario Principals’ Council International School Leadership Certificate with a Masters Dimension will receive transfer credit (TCR) for ESA510 School Leadership 1, ESA511 School Leadership 2 and ESA509 Advanced School Leadership (24 subject points).

12. Students who successfully complete the Ontario Principals’ Council International School Leadership Certificate Standard will receive transfer credit (TCR) for ESA510 School Leadership 1 and ESA511 School Leadership 2 (16 subject points).

13. Students who successfully complete the Queensland Education Leadership Institute Creating Superb School Teams Course will receive transfer credit for EEL510 Leading Professional Learning Organisations (8 subject points).

Graduation requirements

To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 80 points.

Requirements for further study
If students wish to meet the requirements to proceed at a later stage to a Doctor of Philosophy program, they should complete and achieve at a very high level subjects in Educational Research Methodology and a Research Project subject, that is:
EER500 Introduction to Educational Research
EER501 Qualitative Research Methods
EER502 Quantitative Research Methods

It is also recommended that students undertake a major research project, that is:
