Abstract| This subject is concerned with aesthetic, stylistic, historical and social aspects of photography from its invention to the present. Critical approaches of nineteenth century writers are contrasted with those of twentieth century photographic theorists and historians. Particular attention is given to evaluating changing attitudes to photography (as reflected in photographic and art magazines and the popular press), and analyzing selected works by individual photographers and artists in other related visual media. |
