ART316 Italian Renaissance Art (8)
Abstract| This subject looks at the extraordinary flowering of Italian Renaissance art which established the conventions which dominated artistic expression until the 20th century. It traces the development from the essentially symbolic art of the Middle Ages to the ideal of the accurate representation of reality, through the use of linear and aerial perspective, architectural perspective, indoor and outdoor scenes, landscape, light sources and shadowing, the use of geometric shapes to model and arrange figures, the use of colour, and religious, civic and classical iconography. |
