BMS237 Integrated Clinical Placement 1 (8)
Abstract
In this subject students will complete a supervised clinical placement (210h) and submit a comprehensive portfolio based on their experience. This provides students with the opportunity to integrate the theoretical knowledge gained in the subjects studied and practise and consolidate their skills in a clinical environment. Students will be required to demonstrate their ability to reflect and critically evaluate their practice. |

SyllabusThe subject will cover the following topics:
- Communication skills and professional behaviour
- Collection, preparation and analysis of clinical data and/or specimens
- Maintenance and promotion of safe work practices
- Professional accountability
- Reflective practice and portfolio development

Work Place LearningThis subject contains a Compulsory Workplace Learning component of 30 days duration.
Student undertake 30 days placement at an appropriate sites, for example a pathology or research laboratory. While on placement student will undertake specific tasks related to:
Communication skills and professional behaviour
Collection, preparation and analysis of clinical data and/or specimens
Maintenance and promotion of safe work practices
Professional accountability
During placement students will engage in reflective practice and develop a portfolio which will be submitted for assessment.
Students will be responsible for travel and accommodation while on placement and may be required to attend placement away from their normal residence.

Specialised Resources
Students are responsible for costs associated with travel or accommodation associated with placement and with ensuring necessary pre-placement requirements (e.g. immunisation, police checks, first aid certificate) are completed.
