Abstract|
The subject is designed to develop students’ employability skills and their understanding of professional practice. The subject is also aimed at developing students’ self reflection and self monitoring skills to help build their efficacy and confidence in the work place. As part of this subject, students will gain practical experience and apply their academic learning in a professional setting through involvement in a work placement, by undertaking a project or higher duties in their existing workplace or, in agreed circumstances, through structured learning activities. |

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to reflect on personal employability skills and plan appropriate professional development activities;
- be able to apply theoretical models to professional development and business decision making processes in the workplace;
- be able to communicate in the workplace using a range of mediums;
- be able to distinguish team dynamics and analyse the impact of diversity on team performance;
- be able to analyse structured workplace problems and identify a range of possible solutions; and
- be able to prepare an effective job application.

- Journal keeping and reflective practice
- Team dynamics
- Problem solving
- Career choices
- Assessing your marketability
- Goal setting
- Submitting a job application including: addressing selection criteria; writing a resume; covering letters; and referees and letters of recommendation
- Interview skills

Work Place Learning| This subject contains a Compulsory Workplace Learning component of 10 days duration.
Students are given the opportunity to develop their employability skills through 70 hours of activity completed as: a work placement with a new host organisation; a new project or higher duties undertaken with a current employer; or structured learning activities.
