Abstract

Professional communication is a diverse and dynamic field spanning a range of contexts, disciplines and literatures. This subject helps students to ‘map’ the communication field and critically reflect on important trends and influences including social, technological, ethical, legal, cultural and practice issues, for the field generally, and for students’ particular discipline of interest.

Learning Outcomes

  • Technological, ethical, societal, cultural, legal, media, ownership and other trends influencing professional communication
  • Communication practice, professionalism and stakeholder perspectives
  • Power, symbolic power and discourse
