Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the language of chemistry;
- Be able to describe how to calculate chemical amounts of matter;
- Be able to apply known physical laws and perform related calculations;
- Be able to accurately describe molecular behaviour of matter that explains observed macroscopic properties;
- Be able to describe states of matter with respect to bonding;
- Be able to accuratley demonstrate equilibrium and perform calculations;
- Be able to describe relevant acids and bases and perform calculations.

- Chemical foundations;
- Classification of matter;
- Stoichiometry;
- Gases;
- Atomic structure;
- Chemical bonding;
- Condensed states;
- Chemical equilibrium;
- Acids and bases.

Residential School

This subject contains a compulsory 4 day residential school. Provides a hands on approach to the theory in the subject.
