Abstract

This subject provides an introduction to a range of contemporary professional presentation practices and issues. Mediated and non-mediated presentations and performances are explored in workshops and students develop a range of presentation skills, which will be of value throughout the course.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

be able to present effectively in a range of contexts and media platforms
be able to present effective interpersonal, vocal and physical communication in mediated and non-mediated situations
be able to produce presentations individually and in groups, demonstrating clear understanding of audience needs and expectations
be able to reflect on their own communication styles, as well as those of others
be able to identify role and persona in a range of communication contexts

The subject will cover the following topics:

Communication via different media channels and live performance
Use of language, voice and body in presentation
Contemporary communication styles in Australian and other cultural settings
Audience analysis and feedback
Role and persona in communication
Reflection skills
Working in groups

Specialised Resources

Students utilise existing authentic learning environments in the School, such as drama studios and media centre facilities.
