Abstract

This subject integrates theory and practice in a professional communication environment, as students relate concepts from their learning to contemporary practice. Students gain insights into issues of personal and professional development and life-long learning in an authentic or professional environment. Students are required to undertake a minimum of 4 weeks (140 hours) professional placement or other relevant fieldwork and engage in a critical reflection of that experience.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

  • be able to critically evaluate and apply conceptual and theoretical knowledge to a specific workplace environment

The subject will cover the following topics:
  • Planning and preparing for fieldwork
  • Supervised fieldwork of at least 4 weeks (140 hours)
  • The role of theory in the workplace
  • Contemporary professional knowledge and emergent issues
  • Professional and ethical conduct in organisations
  • Reflecting on the learning from role models and practice situations
  • Principles and practices of lifelong learning

Work Place Learning

This subject contains a Compulsory Workplace Learning component of 20 days duration. Students are required to engage in at least 4 weeks of supervised activity in a Communication environment or workplace.
