Abstract|
This subject is designed to broaden students' understanding of issues confronting the wider education community, through exposure to learning and teaching in non school settings such as PCYC, Juvenile Detention Centres, Sport and Recreation Centres, international placements or other approved settings/organisations. Students in Bachelor of Education (Health & PE) and Bachelor of Education (K-12) and Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) will be required to complete 35 hours of placement in such settings. Active participation in the placement will assist students in recognising that educational experiences are linked to wider social issues and contexts. |

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- have completed a 35 hour placement in a structured community (non school) setting catering for adolescents or pre-adolescents.

SyllabusThe subject will cover the following topics:
- the value of community learning;
- exploration of how learning and teaching are conducted in settings other than secondary schools;
- the importance of working in a team; and
- for students undertaking international placements, cultural competence training.

Work Place Learning| This subject contains a Compulsory Workplace Learning component of 4 to 10 days duration.
This subject will involve 35 hours in a formal (non school) setting catering for adolescents or pre-adolescents for students in the Bachelor of Education (K-12) and the Bachelor of Education (H&PE) and Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary).
