EEB432 Learning and Teaching Through Text in Adult and Vocational Education (8)

Abstract

This subject is designed to introduce students to teaching through the use of text including the specific teaching of grammar and the mechanics of writing. It develops skills and knowledge in the area of text analysis and explores the nature and structure of grammar and text. This subject enables students to develop their understanding of Systemic Functional Grammar in terms of teaching and learning in the field of adult and vocational education.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • identify grammar functions and discuss their use in relation to meaning;
  • identify and discuss whole text organisation and language patterns;
  • identify and discuss the purpose and context of texts and link these to language choices; and
  • discuss the relevance and application of learning to professional practice across a variety of adult educational contexts.
