EEL503 Dimensions of Online and Open (4)

Abstract

Courses which are both open and online offer learners across the globe unprecedented access to education. Through sophisticated technologies and purposefully designed online approaches, open online courses have the potential to attract large-scale participation and global interest. In this subject students will engage with the latest educational teaching developments in online and open education. In a series of small assessments students will develop specific skills for online teaching including online moderation and online activity design. They will also conduct small-scale investigations into open educational resources (OERs), contribute to the development of OERs, and use case studies to personalise their learning and situate the subject content in the context of their own life and work.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

  • be able to design a global proposal for an open and online course;
  • be able to define the key relevant success aspects for open and online courses;
  • be able to evaluate the global design of open and online courses; and
  • be able to write an analysis report about open and online courses.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
  • Analyse and define the dimensions of open and online courses
  • Explore the concepts of collaboration, connectivity, global, evaluation, teaching and learning in open and online courses
  • Evaluate open and online courses analyzing costs, quality and access
  • Explore the concept of academic achievement for the open and online courses
