Abstract

This subject explores the role and application of exercise prescription in the management of selected chronic health conditions. Emphasis is placed on examining the clinical pathophysiology associated with prevalent cardiovascular, respiratory, metabolic, and musculoskeletal disorders as well as pregnancy, along with their risk factors for secondary disease and their influence on exercise tolerance and functional status. Furthermore, fundamental concepts in exercise testing and programming to enhance physical health and functional capacity in persons with chronic health conditions are addressed. The action of selected pharmacological treatments and their effect on the exercise response are also examined.
