EMH104 HSIE: Learning About People, Places and the Past (8)

Abstract

In this subject, students will develop discipline knowledge in Human Society and Its Environment. Students will gain background knowledge in history, geography, cultures, civics and citizenship, and social systems and structures. The subject builds research and inquiry skills to support the development of students’ discipline knowledge. Through utilising recognised methods of the disciplines to undertake a personal inquiry, students will draw connections between their own lives and Australian society and its environment.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • demonstrate broad knowledge of the discipline areas that constitute Human Society and Its Environment and show understanding of the way these areas are both distinctive and complementary;
  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the concepts, content and methods of History;
  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the concepts, content and methods of Geography;
  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the development of democracy, the structures and processes of government, civic participation and citizenship ideals, and social, political, legal and economic systems.
