EML515 Technologies for TESOL (8)

Abstract

Technologies for TESOL aims to provide students with the knowledge, understandings, and skills to successfully incorporate technologies into their English language teaching. Students will be introduced to key theories, principles, and approaches for the use of technologies in TESOL contexts. Using their understandings, students will engage with strategies and methods for including technologies strategically and appropriately to enhance language teaching and learning. A range of issues related to the place and use of technology in TESOL contexts will be explored.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to articulate an understanding of technologies and their use in TESOL;
  • be able to articulate an understanding of theories about, principles, and approaches for using technologies in TESOL contexts;
  • be able to critically evaluate the place and use of technologies in language teaching and learning;
  • be able to use technologies appropriately to enhance language teaching and learning; and
  • be able to critically analyse issues in technology and assessment in TESOL.

  • Changing contexts of technologies in TESOL
  • Theories, principles, and approaches for using technologies in TESOL
  • Critical evaluation of technologies for TESOL
  • Designing and implementing technology enhanced teaching and learning in TESOL contexts

  • Teaching language in low/no technology environments
  • Technology and assessment
  • Current issues and new directions in using technologies in TESOL
