EMV301 Vocational Education: Professional Practice (8)
Abstract
This subject is designed to introduce students to the Vocational Education and Training sector with particular emphasis on Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools. It includes a number of the competencies from the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. Workplace learning is a requirement for completion of this subject.

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to describe clearly how Vocational Education is defined within the broad context of secondary schooling in NSW and Australia;
- be able to outline how Vocational Education courses in schools fit into the National Training Agenda, NSW government policy and planning for VET provision and the NSW secondary school curriculum;
- be able to design, develop, deliver and assess training products.

SyllabusThe subject will cover the following topics:
- The VET sector and the context of VET in Schools curriculum offerings.
- The National Training Agenda: Where Schools fit in.
- NSW government policy on VET in Schools.
- The structure of secondary schooling and the place of VET in schools within this structure.
- Competencies from the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment including: Training packages and accredited courses; Assessment validation; Adult language, literacy and numeracy skills; Learning in the workplace.
- Critical appraisal of relevant VET Sector qualification and extension of this content in a VET in schools context.

Work Place LearningThis subject contains a Compulsory Workplace Learning component of 2 to 4 days duration.
Completion of assessment tasks that require student facilitation of workplace training, and observation and assessment of work practice.
