GPM708 Current Issues In Policing And Security (32)

Abstract

This is a coursework subject that is offered by distance. It examines a wide range of issues in the fields of policing and security. These issues are selected for their relevancy to senior law enforcement as well as other government security and emergency management professionals. The subject does this by exploring the literature related to the emerging trends, both nationally and internationally.

Students should have completed relevant postgraduate study in policing, law enforcement and/or security.

Enrolment restrictions

Restricted to students enrolled in the Doctor of Police Leadership or the Doctor of Policing and Security.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to demonstrate a systemic and critical understanding of a current issues in policing and security
- be able to demonstrate a systemic and critical understanding of the emerging issues in policing and security
- be able to critically reflect on the knowledge contained within the subject literature pertaining to policing and security
- be able to evaluated the implications of the theoretical knowledge may have on Australian law enforcement, as well as international ramifications
- be able to analyse emerging trends in policing and security .

The subject will cover the following topics:
- Current issues in the fields of policing and security
- Major theoretical readings on policing and security issues
- Case studies dealing with practical responses to current issues in policing and security
- Comparative analysis of Australian and international perspectives on current issues in policing and security
- The study of emerging trends and issues in policing and security
