Abstract|
The student is required to conduct research into a current problem/issue relevant to their profession. Students will report the findings of their research as portfolios. A portfolio consists of a compilation of scholarly documents written by the student which can include academic or professional journal articles and conference papers, plans, and reports and policy documents. The portfolio is submitted with an analysis/exegesis which integrates the research within the profession while demonstrating academic and professional development over the course of study. The maximum length for the analysis/exegesis that is presented to support the portfolio shall be 30,000 words. |

- be able to demonstrate an understanding of the major theoretical approaches to executive leadership
- be able to demonstrate an understanding of a range of practical approaches to executive leadership
- be able to demonstrate an understanding of the processes of executive leadership as gained from experienced senior mentors
- be able to analyse and evaluate a range of case studies in the application of executive leadership to actual situations both internal and external to policing
- be able to analyse and evaluate a range of case studies in varying styles of executive leadership
- be able to demonstrate an understanding and analyse differences and similarities that exist in executive leadership within law enforcement and other government security and emergency roles

SyllabusThe subject will cover the following topics:
- Individual mentoring of candidates to develop leadership skills.
- The development of an advanced professional portfolio (consisting of other articulated/accredited courses, study exchanges, external placements, publications and minor research projects).
- A research report on a major work-based project. |

Residential School| This subject contains a optional 1 day residential school.
Students will be offered the opportunity to attend a one day residential workshop on research methods which is conducted at the AGSP each year as a one-off introduction topic. This is intended to help students write-up the analysis/exegesis component of their portfolio.
