HSC700 Research Critique and Publication (16)

Abstract

In this subject students develop skills in critiquing literature at the doctoral level. Students are expected to critically analyse information derived from various sources (eg. publications, reports, policy documents, web based material etc.) pertinent to their profession. The subject will be assessed on the basis of the report(s) on the analyses. The material to be analysed, the format and content of the report(s) is negotiated between the student and supervisory team. The critiques will be included in the professional portfolio which is assessed at the culmination of the degree.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
The syllabus will cover the following topics: Students will work closely with their supervisors in all aspects of this subject. Initially students will be required to select various sources of information relevant to their profession. The information to be analysed will be taken from journal articles, book chapters, professional reports and electronic sources (eg. World Wide Web). Students will then critically analyse information selected. In their analysis students will develop high level analytical skills, provide a detailed analysis of the material and thus understand and appreciate how material can presented differently for different audiences.
