Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- - have considered the role and function of the library or other information agency, community it serves and the services it offers;
- - have gained a specialised understanding of a library and information agency;
- - have explored in depth one aspect of the library or information agency and written an evaluative report;
- - have related the theory of librarianship and information science to practical situations;
- - have gained practical work experience; and
- - have been evaluated in terms of their professional performance.

SyllabusThe subject will cover the following topics: - Professional work experience.
- Overview of the functions and operations of the library or other information agency where placed.
- Reflective reporting on one selected aspect of the library or other information agencys operations. |

Work Place LearningThis subject contains a Compulsory Workplace Learning component of 15 days duration.
Students are exposed to the normal day-to-day activities of the workplace during their 105 hour placement and usually undertake a pre-determined project that utilises the knowledge and skills acquired through their studies. They then reflect on their experience and discuss this in a formal report.
