Abstract

The aim of this subject is to develop the skills and knowledge required to find a solution to a specialised research project. It provides opportunities for students to develop their negotiation and communication skills and fine tune their capacity to reflect on their own learning.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to negotiate and agree on an identified research topic and appropriate skills and knowledge with a supervisor;
  • be able to investigate appropriate training and materials for an identified research project;
  • be able to execute an understanding of the materials and processes needed for the research project;
  • be able to link acquired knowledge to the research project and reflect on the process taken to achieve the learning outcomes of the subject.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
  • Literature review in a chosen research area
  • Research paradigms and analysis relevant to the chosen research area
  • Formulate research questions and hypothesis
  • Writing a research proposal
  • Specific topics to be negotiated between the student and the supervisor as per the chosen area of research
