JST334 Case Management for Criminal Investigations. (8)

Abstract

This subject deals with procedures and techniques involved with managing investigative activities and teams, particularly having regard to the relevant legal and organisational framework including organisational mission statements and objectives. It will introduce legal responsibilities of managers, relationships with key stakeholders, case management models, cost effectiveness, and resource allocation.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • - be able to demonstrate the ability to successfully handle management issues associated with investigations
  • - be able to demonstrate an understanding of the legal and organisational responsibilities of investigation managers and case management systems
  • - be able to demonstrate an understanding of the relationship of management and planning principles relating to investigation management.
  • - be able to demonstrate an appreciation of the importance of principles of resource allocation, priority-setting and cost-effectiveness in the investigation management role
  • - be able to demonstrate an apprecation of case management systems and plans

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
  • The legal framework applicable to investigation management.
  • Investigation management and operational issues.
  • The resolution of investigations for the investigation manager.
