JST411 Investigations Management 2 (8)

Abstract

This subject examines the challenges facing investigation in Australia today from a strategic perspective. It explores the management and criminological research literature with a view to understanding the kinds of strategic initiatives that are required to enhance investigation and investigation management. The subject will provide the student with a critical understanding of each of these issues.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  - be able to think critically about the transformation that needs to occur in management thinking and practice in relation to strategic initiatives and policy developments in criminal and administrative investigation
- be able to think critically about the role that the investigation manager has to play in the policy development process and in guiding strategic directions in investigation
- be able to demonstrate an appreciation for evaluating and applying management theory and models to the investigation environment in Australia
- be able to review, analyse and devise  strategic initiatives based on the management and criminological research to enhance the quality of investigation management practice

The subject will cover the following topics:
The role of management thinking in development of strategic initiatives
- The role of the manager in the policy development process
- The role of the manager with regard to strategic direction
- Evaluation and application of management theory/models
- Enhance investigation management practice
