Abstract

This subject introduces the general field of psychology, its scientific and professional development. It examines some important areas of psychology including learning, developmental psychology, social psychology, personality, health psychology and psychological disorders.

The subject is specifically designed for students who contemplate careers in health and human services.

Students should note that this subject does not contribute to an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited major in psychology.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

Be able to understand and recount key concepts and theories in the discipline of psychology which are relevant to health and human services.
Be able to apply academic skills developed throughout the subject including: sourcing, reading and evaluating scientific research articles and academic literature; academic writing; referencing; and critical thinking.
Be able to apply psychological theories and concepts to relevant issues and real world situations.
