RAD392 Digital Image Processing (8)

Abstract

This subject is an introduction to the fundamentals, concepts and applications of digital image techniques and processing in Medical Imaging. This subject also considers the influence of the human observer as part of a digital imaging system.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
have a basic knowledge of the use of images in the modern world.
have a basic knowledge of human vision, visual limitations and applications of human image analysis in Medical Imaging.
be able to explain concepts concerning digital image quality in relation to the image processing equipment, in particular to the process of image digitisation.
understand basic principles and concepts underlying image manipulation, image storage, hard copy production and human review.
have some practical experience using a microprocessor based image digitisation system utilising software which allows image manipulation upon diagnostic image forms.
have reviewed the basic concepts of a series of current digital systems in use in Medical Imaging considering the state of the current technology and relevant current issues.
