Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to define and appropriately use the basic concepts and terminology applicable to epidemiology;
  • be able to determine and apply different methods to measure disease frequency, dynamics and associations;
  • be able to define, select and explore a range of appropriate sampling methods and conduct calculations of sample size;
  • be able to interpret and make appropriate inference from epidemiological and statistical outcomes;
  • be able to explore and understand the importance of the hierarchy of evidence, and define and be able to critically appraise each level of evidence;
  • be able to calculate, interpret and compare measures of diagnostic test accuracy;
  • be able to demonstrate knowledge of and be able to apply the steps of an outbreak investigation;
  • be able to demonstrate knowledge of and be able to appropriately apply principles of study design; and
  • be able to demonstrate knowledge of and be able to appropriately apply statistical theory and methods.
