Bachelor of Information Technology (with specialisations)

Full-time 3.0 years (6.0 sessions)

Part-time 6.0 years (12.0 sessions)

Admission Criteria

CSU Admission Policy

Applicants for the Bachelor of Information Technology must meet the following Admission Requirements:

* A completed High School Certificate (or equivalent) with an ATAR of at least 65 (including adjustment factors).

OR

* Completion of the HSC (or equivalent) with strong performance (such as 60% or higher marks) in subjects in the Information Technology area.

OR

* Successful completion of at least two appropriate standard IT university-level subjects.

OR

* For recent school leavers, a report from the School Principal, equivalent to that used in the School Recommendation Scheme (SRS), recommending the applicant as well-suited for university study.

OR

* IT related professional certifications such as from CISCO, Microsoft, IBM and other professional industries.

OR

* Two years relevant professional IT work experience (i.e. in areas such as programmer, analyst, systems administration, help desk, network support but NOT clerical roles such as data entry or secretarial) demonstrated by a detailed resume.

OR

* A completed AQF Certificate III in Information Technology (including any specialisation of Information Technology) or a completed AQF Certificate III in an area related to Information Technology.

English Language Proficiency

Practice Experience

Particular emphasis is placed on the importance of practical experience and all teaching involves industry standard hardware, software, methods and techniques. Final year students investigate, design and implement a substantial computer application to address a practical real world problem in the chosen area of specialisation.

Integrated Program with Canberra Institute of Technology
An integrated program is available for students studying the Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology, Certificate IV in Information Technology (Networking) and the Diploma of IT (Networking) through the Canberra Institute of Technology. Students will also concurrently study selected subjects in the Bachelor of Information Technology via online. Students who complete the full integrated program will graduate with the following awards and industry certifications:

  • Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology
  • Certificate IV in Information Technology Networking
  • Diploma of Information Technology Networking
  • Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching certification
  • Cisco CCNA Security
  • Bachelor of Information Technology

Credits will be granted into the Bachelor of Information Technology for completion of the industry certifications and TAFE component of the course.

Integrated Program with Riverina TAFE
An integrated program is available for students studying the Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology (Networking Administration), Certificate IV in Information Technology (Networking), Diploma of Information Technology (Networking) and the Advanced Diploma of Information Technology (Network Security) through Riverina TAFE. Students will also concurrently study selected subjects in the Bachelor of Information Technology at either the Albury or Wagga CSU campus. Students who complete the full integrated program will graduate with the following awards and industry certifications:

  • Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology (Network Administration)
  • Certificate IV in Information Technology (Networking)
  • Diploma of Information Technology (Networking)
  • Advanced Diploma of Information Technology (Network Security)
  • Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching certification

Students of the integrated program can optionally choose to sit for the following industry certifications:

  • CompTIA A+ certification
  • EC Council Certified Ethical Hacker certification

Please note that additional costs will apply for undertaking the industry certifications.

Credits will be granted into the Bachelor of Information Technology for completion of the TAFE component of the course. The BIT TAFE integrated program can be completed in 3 years by full-time study.

The Australian Computer Society (ACS) accredits courses in Information Technology to verify that they meet professional standards in terms of content, staff skills, teaching facility and quality assurance. The Bachelor of Information Technology (with specialisations) has been accredited at the Professional level of recognition by the ACS. Accreditation renewal of the course is required after every five years.
