Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to effectively conduct academic literature search
  • be able to critically evaluate recent literature on a given topic and report this using effective written communication
  • be able to demonstrate excellent verbal communication skills eg. through seminar presentation
  • be able to evaluate and rate the work of their peers
  • be able to demonstrate an enhanced knowledge of their discipline area through in-depth literature review

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:

- How to develop skills in gathering, assessing, extracting and synthesizing information.
- Building skills to use library databases, use bibliographic programs, such as Endnote, and begin the process of developing a literature review from a small number of references.
- Practice and review skills to enable students to critically evaluate the writing of others.
- Creating and presenting powerpoint sessions.
- Learning to review and present information gathered in written form.
