APS402 Foundations of Advanced Paramedic Practice (8)

This subject  provides students with the foundations required to enable them to provide advanced paramedic care. The subject covers advanced patient assessment, including history taking, physical examination and point of care diagnostic tests. It will also expose the student to concepts that will improve their clinical decision making ability by examining clinical decision making theory.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • Be able to identify the role of paramedic leadership in patient care.
  • Be able to integrate and apply the knowledge required to complete an advanced and thorough patient assessment including: physical exams, patient history, and the integration of point of care diagnostic tests.
  • Be able to make sound clinical decisions to support, maintain and restore the health of patients by utilising clinical data/findings from patient assessment and point of care diagnostic tests.
  • Be able to apply a knowledge of models and theories to clinical decision making in paramedic practice.

  • Paramedic clinical leadership
  • Advanced patient history taking
  • Advanced patient assessment/physical examination
  • Interpretation of point of care diagnostic tests
  • Clinical decision making
