This subject offers a thematic study of art and books. It focuses on the relationships between image and text, between form and content, and between conception and construction. These concepts are introduced through the study of key examples, including illuminated manuscripts, livres d'artiste, children's illustrated books, and the 'new comic' and artists' books in the twentieth century. The subject also introduces students to the literature and contemporary debate about art and books and discusses the future of the book in a digital age.
