The ability to tell a story across a range of media platforms is essential for students entering careers in the fields of communication, art, design, performance and media production. This subject provides an introduction to storytelling through audio, vision and live/recorded performance, with consideration of the evolution of technologies and practices.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to critique and apply the fundamental concepts of narrative;
  • be able to construct narratives using audio, video & performance production processes;
  • be able to reflect on the evolution of technology and how narratives can be shaped by various mediums;
  • be able to use a range of techniques to capture, edit and publish audio and moving images;
  • be able to appropriately use the various file formats used to publish audio and moving images; and
  • be able to produce and critique audio visual creative works.

  • Introduction to sound
  • Audio narrative
  • Directing performance
  • Audio capture and presentation
  • Introduction to the moving image
  • Moving image narrative
  • Sound and image
  • Moving image capture and presentation
  • Narrative and emerging technologies

Special Resources

It is expected that students have access to the following:

  • Adobe Creative Cloud suite of software;
  • Headphones;
  • A device capable of recording sound and video (could be a smart phone).
