COM538 Communication in Organisations (16)

This subject examines communication in organisations from a range of standpoints. Students apply different models and theories to analyse professional communication, individual communication styles and communication management. Functionalist, interpretive and critical approaches are used to underpin analysis of communication in contemporary organisations. Students develop critical thinking, reflective, analytic and strategic skills through theory-informed observation, case analysis and problem-based learning.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to demonstrate specialised knowledge of theories and frameworks for analysing interpersonal and professional communication in organisations and other contexts
  • be able to demonstrate ability to critically and systematically assess communication requirements and make high level judgments concerning communication processes in organisations.
  • be able to evaluate organisational communication and construct a strategic communication plan
