DBA714 Business Specialisation Research (16)

The subject requires students to finalise the research framework that will guide their doctoral research. Students will demonstrate their thorough knowledge of the paradigms and methodologies by which knowledge in the field of their enquiry has been advanced and develop and robustly defend their chosen research approach.  A comprehensive research proposal will be submitted for review and defended in a seminar setting for approval.  In addition, if required, the application for ethics approval for the proposed research will be submitted.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to effectively research and critically evaluate the research activity and issues within the field of research and the interrelationship of research results among the topic areas;
  • be able to analyse and evaluate the research techniques used to advance knowledge within the field of research;
  • be able to identify and critically reflect on the importance to industry of unresolved research problems in the particular area chosen for the thesis;
  • be able to apply expert skills to identify the techniques and methodologies that are likely to be productive in addressing these research problems; and
  • be able to clearly communicate and justify their research intentions by developing an approved research proposal and ethics approval application.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • Structure and content of a research proposal
  • Structure and content of the application for ethics approval
  • The curriculum for this subject will, in part, be determined by the choice of both the field of research and the selection of topic areas within that field
