DES112 Production Management (8)

This subject introduces students to the roles and responsibilities of a production manager in a range of theatrical, screen media, festival, commercial/trade or event based contexts. Fundamental management skills are covered including scheduling, budgeting, workplace health and safety compliance, risk management and mitigation, production planning, staging/eventing and project management. Students explore and apply a range of organisational communication skills for stage, screen or other team-based performance and productions. Specific stage-management skills for design are covered.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to identify and describe the function of a range of design and performance production roles;
  • be able to apply techniques of design and production management in performative and creative contexts;
  • be able to apply fundamental principles of project management for the arts;
  • be able to apply context appropriate communication skills in team-based project scenarios;
  • be able to construct production schedules and budgets; and
  • be able to recall and explain fundamental workplace health and safety responsibilities of the production manager and designer.
