This subject focuses on understanding the nature and enactment of leadership in the field of early childhood education and care. Emphasis is given to the construction of leadership philosophy and the development of specific leadership knowledge and skills. This learning is then applied to the challenges of leading in integrated services, mentoring staff and leading pedagogy. The notion of leadership is explored from various perspectives and critiqued to ensure attention to both positional and distributed approaches. How leadership knowledge and skills inform advocacy for the ECEC field is a central objective of this subject.
