This subject examines theories and models of leadership learning through coaching and mentoring. It focuses on the importance of critical reflection in, on and for practice, the change process, and the imperative for educational leaders to achieve school and/or organisational improvement. The development of conceptual, theoretical and practical understandings involves an examination of the nature and practice of coaching and mentoring in various international contexts. Research relating to effectiveness (culture, conditions and context) and evaluation of practice is considered. This subject provides the opportunity for students to analyse and plan the integration of coaching and mentoring in structured professional development in an education and/or training setting.
