The primary focus of this subject is to provide the scientific background and specific knowledge related to the nutritional needs of athletes and active people undertaking exercise. This subject will address current concepts and controversies relating to sports nutrition by linking information in the fields of exercise science and nutrition. Topic areas covered include nutritional assessment of athletes; energy, protein and carbohydrate requirements for athletes; nutritional needs for training, competition and recovery; and dietary supplements and ergogenic aids. This subject will also explore the role of nutrition in optimising training responses, adaptations and sports performance.
