EMG206 Critical Analysis of Disaster Response (16)

In this subject students will enhance their understanding of current emergency operations management and specifically what actions could be taken during the pre-impact and impact phases of any emergency. The subject will cover current legislation, emergency prevention, communications during emergencies, the three phases of an emergency, current pre-impact arrangements, the roles, responsibilities and authority of the Emergency Services and specifically what actions could be taken during the impact phase of an emergency/disaster.

  • be able to identify and describe the communication systems used prior to and during emergency events;
  • be able to describe the legislation and regulations relevant to management of emergency events;
  • be able to describe the geographical and time implications of an emergency event;
  • be able to describe the preventative and or mitigating actions or contributory actions relating to an emergency event;
  • be able to describe the plan implementation aspects relating to an emergency event;
  • be able to outline the roles and responsibilities of the organisations involved in an emergency/disaster;
  • be able to detail the command and control responsibilities during the impact phase of an emergency/disaster;
  • be able to describe the activation and operation of operations centres during an emergency event;
  • be able to describe the media management strategies implemented during the impact phase of an emergency event;
  • be able to examine the evacuation process and describe the factors affecting evacuations during and emergency event; and
  • be able to describe the management of external operational aid during an emergency event.
