This subject explores the global spread of English over time and its implications for TESOL. It adopts a historical perspective to look into the formation of contemporary English while adhering to a critical perspective to examine the position of Englishes in the world in relation to power, identity, community, and knowledge economy. The subject provides an opportunity for students to critically reflect on their own life experiences and performances in the context of language teaching and learning.
