ENG361 Engineering Challenge 5 (8)

Students entering the Master Engineering(Civil Systems) program bring a range of experiences and expectations of engineering.  In this subject we bring the cohort together, and introduce to them the CSU engineering mindset by working in teams to define, solve and report upon a term-long project.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • understand the CSU Engineering course, and the way in which the degree differs from traditional engineering degree programs;
  • have met rest of their intake cohort, and know enough about them to be able to work together effectively in the future;
  • work collaboratively to deliver a workable solution to an engineering problem;
  • articulate and follow systematic engineering design processes;
  • identify the hallmarks of high performance teams and the variety of roles that team members play within them, as well as their own preferred roles in a team environment; and
  • demonstrate an awareness of the broad range of document types encountered by engineers in their professional practice, and the distinctions between the different audiences they are targeted towards.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • the CSU Engineering identity;
  • the engineering design process;
  • models of teamwork;
  • technical writing and communication;
  • structured reflections; and
  • logbook practice.
