ENM163 Natural Resource Management (8)

This introductory subject gives an overview of how natural resources are managed by environmental scientists. Topics include an introduction to environmental systems, their multi-disciplinary and complex nature, and approaches to managing them. On completion students have a comprehensive understanding of the nature of environmental systems and the ability to apply their knowledge and skills to make sound judgements regarding courses of action to achieve conservation in a range of contexts.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to identify a natural resource and define natural resources management;
  • be able to discuss a range of natural resource management issues and approaches to manage them;
  • be able to review and discuss the roles and effectiveness of relevant policy mechanisms and instruments for natural resource management;
  • be able to apply knowledge and skills to explain the human dimensions underpinning natural resource management; and
  • be able to explain the importance of Indigenous Australian land management in contemporary natural resource management.
