This subject critically examines the key issues and links between economic development and sustainable development in a global context, using case studies in Australia and the wider Asia Pacific region. It looks at the complex interactions between the major social, environmental and economic dimensions including the variable nature of the impacts of development, with some environments and people suffering under our current approach to economic development. Finally this subject explores the strategies for managing the interactions and tensions between the social, economic and environmental dimensions and debates around these 'solutions'. The subject has no residential school. Upon completion, students will be able to actively and expertly contribute to conversations and debates on a range of key global environmental issues.
