EPT438 Inclusive Education Practicum (8)

This professional experience allows students to demonstrate skills, knowledge and attitude development in the inclusive education subjects covered in this specialisation. Supervision will provide affirmation of strength as well as opportunities for improvement in the students teaching contexts. The duration of the professional experience is 20 days or equivalent for distance education students, alongside an academic component.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to analyse and critically reflect upon the role of effective individualised assessment, teaching and evaluation in inclusive education;
  • be able to reflect upon and evaluate how to meet the needs of diverse learners in inclusive education;
  • be able to generate strategies to create a positive learning environment in educational settings in inclusive education;
  • be able to analyse and critically reflect upon professionalism in inclusive education;
  • be able to transform and integrate knowledge gained during coursework, readings and professional experience to complete a portfolio entry for the goal of effective individualised assessment, teaching and evaluation;
  • be able to apply the technical knowledge gained during coursework, readings and professional experience to complete a portfolio entry for the goal of meeting the needs of diverse learners;
  • be able to critically evaluate knowledge gained during coursework, readings and professional experience to complete a portfolio entry for the goal of creating a positive learning environment in educational settings;
  • be able to transform and evaluate knowledge gained during coursework, readings and professional experience to complete a portfolio entry for the goal of professionalism; and
  • be able to apply knowledge and skills developed during their course and the practicum to demonstrate well-developed judgment, adaptability and responsibility as an inclusive educator and consider the many and varied facets of the role.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • Reflective processes involved in various settings.
  • Professional issues and concepts.
  • Assessment both formal and instructional.
  • Programming and instruction.
  • Management of challenging behaviour.
  • Collaboration with other stakeholders.

Workplace Learning

This subject contains a 20 days Compulsory Workplace Learning component.
