This subject examines the nature and operation of financial institutions and markets in Australia as well as the economics of the financial system in which they operate. A wide range of financial institutions, markets and securities are examined in detail, together with such concepts as financial intermediation,  interest rate and exchange rate determination.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • organisation and structure of financial markets;
  • bank and non-bank financial institutions;
  • corporate debt markets;
  • government debt markets;
  • interest rate determination;
  • term and risk structure of interest rates;
  • structure and operation of foreignb exchange markets;
  • exchange rate determination;
  • equity markets;
  • derivative markets.
