HRS424 Science Honours Project/Dissertation (24)

This is a research subject available only to students enrolled in an appropriate Honours degree in the Faculty of Science. Students enrolled in this subject will work directly with their supervisory team to undertake an appropriate research project. Students will complete a research proposal, critical review of the literature, at least one seminar presentation, and submit their final project in dissertation format for examination.

This subject is available only for students enrolled in an appropriate Bachelor (Honours) degree, and with the approval of the Associate Dean (Research, Honours & Graduate Studies) in the Faculty of Science.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • Be able to demonstrate an advanced level of knowledge in the area of specialisation;
  • Be able to undertake a systematic and critical review of the literature in the area of specialisation;
  • Be able to define and delimit one or more research questions or hypotheses within the context of the literature in the area of specialisation;
  • Be able to design a research project, including the appropriate application of research methodologies, and articulate this design in a research proposal;
  • Be able to obtain human/animal ethics approval (if required);
  • Be able to demonstrate proficiency in the execution of a research project through submission of the project in dissertation or other specified format;
  • Be able to effectively communicate the research project in written and verbal formats.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • Undertake a research project in an appropriate field of research, under the guidance of the supervisory team
  • Undertake School-specific Honours requirements as advised by the School Honours Co-ordinator
  • Undertake discipline-specific Honours requirements as advised by the Principal Supervisor in liaison with the School Honours Co-ordinator
