HSM514 Change Project (Health Services) (16)

Students will learn how to identify, from a managerial perspective, an aspect of their workplace requiring change, and to develop and implement an authentic project that will guide implementation of the identified change. Students will undertake a contextual analysis and justification for the change required. Justification for the project will include a literature review, before the design and development of the change project. Students will also develop supporting products that may include communication documents, proposals, programs, implementation and evaluation strategies, tools and maps. Learning in the subject will be underpinned by a reflective journal and relevant theory on the management of change.This subject is the final part of a capstone coursework elective stream following the eight core subjects comprising the Graduate Diploma in Health Services Management.

Assumed Knowledge

HSM513 is one of three subjects comprising a coursework elective stream designed to be taken as a capstone experience in the Master of Health Service Management. It is assumed that students will have completed all core subjects in the Master of Health services Management prior to enrolling in this subject.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • Be able to identify aspects of their workplace that are in need of change;
  • Be able to justify the construction of a change management project to address identified needs;
  • Be able to apply an evidence based approach to self directed inquiry in relation to project development;
  • Be able to implement a change project within their workplace in accordance with organisational and stakeholder requirements;
  • Be able to critically evaluate project dimensions in relation to change management;
  • Be able to evaluate own learning in relation to the management of change
